Boating Safety Links
The purpose of this page is to provide a variety of resources to improve the safety of your boating experience. This includes links for emergency preparedness and planning and well as other resources. We will continue to update this page as other useful links become available.
United States Power Squadrons - In case you are not a member of the USPS already, this is one of the first places we would recommend. Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects.
Vessel Safety Check - Another great way to ensure your safety on the water is to have your vessel examined by a certified vessel safety examiner. The Vessel Safety Check program is conducted in cooperation with the United States Power Squadrons and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Safety & Loss Prevention Resources - ACE Recreational Marine Insurance has a variety of resources dedicated to boating safety and loss control. Of particular note is a detailed document related to hurricanes and severe storms. We are pleased to offer a link to this site where you may print or download these documents.
NOAA/NWS/FEMA Hurricane Preparedness Website - This site was created by the NOAA, the National Weather Service and FEMA to provide a variety of information related to hurricane preparedness. Of particular interest for mariners is the link for marine safety.
FEMA Virtual Library & Electronic Reading Room - This site maintained by FEMA has a variety of documents related to preparation and planning. There are entire sections related to hurricane, flood, and tornado.
Hurricane Preparedness - This document provides helpful suggestions for hurricane preparedness written by LT Jason Dalby, VFA-86 located on the website of the Naval Safety Center.
U.S. Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety - The official website of the Office of Boating Safety where you will find a variety of information related to this topic.
